As we approach Earth Day on April 22, are you yearning to make real, meaningful environmental changes in your community and beyond, but aren’t sure where to start or how to take action that will really, truly stick? Don’t worry; Unite for Change has your back.
Unite for Change is a new online platform that allows Canadians to learn, take action in support of a cause they care about, and/or donate to one of 40 Cause Funds available. It was launched by CanadaHelps in November 2021, Canada’s best destination for donating and fundraising online.
How does it work? Unite for Change allows Canadians to support their favourite cause by donating to one of its Cause Funds. Cause Funds are a new and innovative way to give, as your single donation will make a broad and lasting impact by supporting a group of registered charities, all working toward the same cause. Cause Funds are build either using an algorithm or with an expert who curates the list of charities that are included in the fund so, you can be sure your donation dollars are doing good.
Unite for Change also provides educational content on various causes so you can learn more (for example, about global health or climate change). And, since launching, more than $7 million has been raised in support of the current Cause Funds available, while more than 6,300 charities have received donations from a Cause Fund so far. That’s major change.
Speaking specifically to environmental Cause Funds this April, the following are available to help you spark change in an area of personal importance to you:
- Fight Climate Change with Policy Fund: Curated by Michael Bernstein (executive director of Clean Prosperity), this fund supports critical programs and initiatives that advocate for policy changes to end the climate crisis and lead to building a cleaner, healthier world.
- Protect the Environment Fund: Less than 11 per cent of Canada’s plastics get recycled. The rest end up in our lakes, parks, landfills and oceans, destroying ecosystems and leaching toxic chemicals. If we don’t start protecting our planet we will jeopardize our future. This fund includes 530 plus registered charities focused on protecting the environment and its ecosystems.
- Land and Food Justice Fund: This fund supports leading organizations that improve land access and promote ecological food systems. It includes more than 40 charities from across Canada that are substantially focused on land access, ecological food systems and food justice.
There’s never been a better time to Unite for Change. —Vita Daily
