With National Puppy Day coming up on March 23, here are 10 essential steps for bathing your dog from our friends at Showers To You Bath Experts:
- Brush your dog’s fur to remove any loose hair or mats before starting the bath.
- Fill the bathtub or a basin with lukewarm water, making sure it’s not too hot or cold.
- Wet your dog’s fur with the water, starting from the neck down to the tail.
- Apply a dog-specific shampoo to your dog’s fur, lathering it well to create a rich foam.
- Start scrubbing your dog’s fur with your hands or a washcloth, making sure to reach all areas of the body, including the underbelly, legs and paws.
- Rinse off the shampoo thoroughly with lukewarm water, making sure to remove all suds from your dog’s coat.
- Apply a dog-specific conditioner to your dog’s fur, if desired, and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing off.
- Use a towel to gently dry your dog’s fur, removing as much moisture as possible.
- If necessary, use a hairdryer on a low setting to dry your dog’s coat. Be careful not to use a high setting, which can burn your dog’s skin.
- Finally, reward your dog with praise and a treat for being a good boy or girl during the bath.
Remember to always use dog-specific products, as human shampoos and conditioners can irritate a dog’s skin. Additionally, never leave your dog unattended during a bath, and be careful not to get water or shampoo in their eyes, ears or nose. —Vita Daily
