While the days are getting longer and the temps are beginning to rise, we’re looking forward to making the transition into spring styles. Although it might not be time to whip out the bikinis or short shorts quite yet, there are a lot of options for that in-between season of “a bit brisk” and “sunny days ahead.” Below are some of our fave options for a lighter option this spring. –Vicki Duong
smash + tess. When it comes to building a wardrobe full of essentials, a good trench is a quintessential piece. We are loving Smash + Tess’ take on the classic jacket ($185) crafted from a drapey fabric to ensure a comfortable fit while showcasing trench features such as a midi length, back vent for added movement and a removable belt. What we adore about a trench coat is that it is versatile and pairs well with dresses and trousers alike.
arcteryx. Dressing for the gym during this in-between weather change can be a bit challenging. You want something that will keep you warm since the temps aren’t quite in the double digits yet, but cool enough to not overheat with your sweat sesh. Fret not, Arcteryx’s Kyanite pullover ($180) is designed with versatility in mind. The brushed fleece keeps you comfortable and warm while four-way stretch adds breathability and supports your movements.
paper label. When it comes to goodbyes we might not be ready to pack away our knitwear quite yet. A new staple for us is this knit vest ($98) from Vancouver’s Paper Label, a rib knit vest that can be worn as a layering piece or on its own for a breezy fit. Plus its boxy fit and high neck adds a trend-driven silhouette to any ensemble.
moose knuckle. Here on the West Coast we love our puffers. Not only do they protect us from the elements, but the durable nylon keeps us dry when it rains, but our oversized puffers have felt a bit too warm lately. That’s why we’ve been opting for the Moose Knuckle Air Down Parka ($695), a lightweight coat made from recycled materials and contains down, perfect for not-too-cold nights.
duer. We might not be reaching for our cut-offs yet but that doesn’t mean we aren’t drawn to a shorter inseam. Lately we’ve been bearing our ankles with the Kick Flare denim ($149) from Duer. A 90’s silhouette modernized, this pair of bootcut jeans features a cropped raw hem with DIY bar tacks for added customization (shorties rejoice!) Like with other Duer denim, this jeans are made to move with you with a generous amount of stretch and moisture-wicking technology.
on. Longer days means more time for outdoor activities, including running! Having separate indoor and outdoor training shoes not only keeps your floors clean, but each provides a different level of support depending on the surfaces. A favorite of ours is the Cloudstratus ($220) from On, a performance shoe designed for the pavement. The amped up cushion promises to keep each stride protected while giving you the sensations of cloud-like comfort.
adhere to studios. For when you want to look sharp, but also need to deal with the rain, Adhere to Studio offers a waterproof blazer ($495), a fully seamed piece made from recycled materials. Chic details include a removable belt that cinches your waist and multiple pockets to keep you organized on the go. Braving the rain has never looked so cool.
free label. When it comes to dressing for transitional weather, transitional clothes are always preferred. That’s why the Isabel Wrap ($118) from ethical and sustainable brand Free Label will always be on rotation in our wardrobe. It can be worn in a multitude of ways to allow you to customize your coverage while flared sleeves at retro appeal.
vessi. We are ready to put away our chunky rain boots but that doesn’t mean we don’t need waterproof footwear in our shoe closet. Enter the Boardwalk Slip-On ($125), a brand new offering from Vessi that looks like a classic slip-on but features their impressive waterproof knit and grippy sole. We love the Sail White colourway that pairs easily with our lightweight pieces this spring.
specsavers. As it gets brighter out, eye protection becomes more important to take into consideration. Our fave pair of sunnies are these aviators ($249) from Specsaver made in collaboration with adidas Originals. They are slightly oversized for a Hollywood-ready look and feature a classic adidas white and green frame.
