Now the skies are blue and the sun is shining, you’re bound to be tempted by a frozen treat. Ice cream and gelato are similar but not the same. Gelato contains milk rather than cream and no egg yolks. There are many gelato shops in Vancouver but these are some favourites. —Bronwyn Lewis

La Casa Gelato has been serving Vancouver for decades. They are world famous for being the only shop to carry 238 flavours so you might have to try a few samples before deciding.

Passione Gelato Artigianale is a neighbourhood gelato shop located at Parq Vancouver. Gelato chef Salvatore Boccarossa attended Carpigiani Gelato University before applying his skills to the delicious gelato served at Passione.

At Uno Gelato, Maestro Gelatiere Andrés Bermudez develops flavours using local BC ingredients from Krause Berry Farms, Vancouver Island Sea Salt, and Avalon Dairy.

Award-winning Bella Gelateria has three locations in Vancouver, with a fourth coming soon. They make all of their gelato from scratch with natural ingredients, using local Avalon Dairy milk.

Vancouver has its own Grande Maestro of Gelato, James Coleridge. He won First Place at the 2023 Gelato Festival. The only place you can buy Coleridge’s gelato is at Casereccio Foods. They serve fresh pasta as well as gelato by the cup, cone, or pint.

A short walk from the seawall, Gusto A Taste of Italy, serves gelato as well as breakfast, antipasti, panini, and pasta. They also serve coffee which means you can order one of their gelatos as an affogato.
