Spot Prawn season is underway and historic Steveston Village, Tourism Richmond, and the Steveston Harbour Authority are excited to welcome visitors to the second annual Spot Prawn & Seafood Celebration. The festival runs until June 18; here are four reasons to check it out. —Bronwyn Lewis

Spot Prawn Sales: For a true sea-to-fork experience, visit Fisherman’s Wharf to buy fresh spot prawns directly from local fishers. The sense of excitement is undeniable as customers gather, sometimes as early as 6 a.m., to take home the best of this season. Hot tip: bring a reusable bag to carry your catch home, and bring cash—some boats accept cash only!

Spot Prawn & Seafood Dine About: 12 different restaurants are taking part in this year’s Dine About, which runs from June 1 to 18. Chef Narain of Steveston Seafood House has created a refreshing Spot Prawn Ceviche, while Chef Vincent at Britannia Brewing has paired the Deckhand Lager with a Smoked Garlic Butter Spot Prawn Skewer. Chef Harris Sakalis of Globe@YVR, Chef Robert Clark of Ocean Organic Seafood and Chef Ian Lai of Urban Bounty will all be sharing tips and tricks for cooking up delectable dishes with spot prawns and other West Coast seafood.
