Getting the family packed and out of the house on any given day can be a lengthy ordeal. But getting to the airport for a 7 a.m. international flight with all family members and luggage in tow? There might even be tears.
Luckily, we’ve discovered a clever trick: check in the night before at the Fairmont Airport Hotel at YVR. You can have a leisurely dinner at the Jetside Bar while the children marvel at the planes landing and taking off in the oversized picture windows. After a swim and a hot tub (or perhaps your last great bubble bath before heading to bathrooms unknown) it’s family movie night as everyone eases into holiday mode.
Next day, order the kids’ breakfasts to the room (children don’t have expense accounts, so the prices are copacetic), check in to your flight as you check out of the hotel and then head downstairs to the airport firm in the knowledge that your all have your luggage and passports and won’t miss your flight.
