Hi Lily! Please tell us a bit about yourself to start.

Hi! My Name is Lily and I’m the founder of Lily Lou’s Aromas. I make non-toxic, soy wax candles.

When and why did you launch Lily Lou’s Aromas? What niche were/are you aiming to fill?

I started making candles in the summer of 2021, but I officially launched in October 2021. I created Lily Lou’s Aromas because I discovered the candles we were using at home were toxic and full of nasties. They gave us bad headaches and I wanted to make candles for people that wouldn’t make them ill. Making candles is my passion – I love being creative! Pouring candles and wax melts, mixing the scents, and designing labels are so much fun!

What products do you currently offer, and what makes them unique?

I currently offer candles, wax melts and room sprays. I also just launched bug sprays and deodorizing powders for the summer! I’m a summer girl and I hate mosquitos! My products are unique because every time you light them, it encourages you to take a moment for yourself,  focus on your mental health and take care of yourself. They’re also unique because of ME! Every candle is made by me and a part of me goes into every single one. Like my Monster Sprays! They’re for kids who are afraid of monsters! You spray them in the dark and around your room, or anywhere where monsters may be hiding. They’re lavender scented to help you sleep, and keeps monsters away! I made them because I was so scared of monsters when I was a kid. I used to think monsters were everywhere and I couldn’t sleep. So my mom and dad would spray lavender scents around my room so I would feel safe. I wanted to do that for other kids!

Congratulations on the release of your brand-new summer line: Passport to Paradise! Can you tell us about the range, what products are included, and where you drew your inspiration from?

With Passport to Paradise…I have Watermelon Slice, Lime Crush, Citrus Sunset, Sparkling Waves in candles and wax melts! My inspiration for my summer line comes from things that remind me of summer, like sunsets, and how I always eat watermelon in the summer!

How do you, as a candle-maker, infuse the best, most realistic and dreamiest scents into your candles?

I guess the same way I find inspiration for my candle ideas – through my memories and what makes me feel the smell is like. For example, for watermelon, if the scent reminds me of watermelon, then that’s what I’m using.

Any advice for other entrepreneurial kids out there, who would like to start their own business?

I definitely have some advice that helped me grow and start my business. I like having a journal that I write in everyday. I write three things down everyday that I want to achieve. If I don’t achieve it that day, I keep doing it until I do. I also love connecting with people and getting the word about my business out there. Go to markets and networking events. Starting your own business can be overwhelming sometimes and you want to make sure you have someone who is there to support you, and someone you can turn to for help. My mom and dad taught me that it’s always okay to ask for help.

For summer, what’s your go-to candle scent?

Oooh…I love, love, love Watermelon Slice. It’s my favourite! I love watermelon.
