Vacation Dressing: What To Pack For Your European Holiday, Even If You’re Staying Home This Summer

July 4, 2023

Summer has arrived, and we’re ready to dress for the occasion. While scrolling our social media feed, it seems like everyone is in Europe (or aspiring to be!). Even if you’re not vacationing in the South of France or Italy, Euro Summer style is a major trend this season. This classic style always seems to be around, but this year, vacation-core is a major vibe. Think breezy linen items, sun dresses—and pretty raffia accessories to complete the outfit. Whether you’re lucky enough to be jetting off to Portugal or Paris this summer, or just to your local patio for an Aperol Spritz, here are six key items to consider for vacation summer style. —Lyndi Barrett

One of the most versatile items you can have in your summer wardrobe is a white shirt. A collared, button up, slightly oversized shirt to be exact. This can be worn as a light layer, as a shirt or over a bathing suit. Look for a cotton or linen fabric to ensure it’s a breathable, easy piece. There are many brands with their version of the classic white shirt. This COS cotton shirt with a washed effect is super chic. It has a flattering curved hem with a tailored finish. Dynamite’s oversized airflow shirt is one of their best sellers this season. Shop around and find your perfect version of this shirt.

Linen is one of the best solutions for hot weather dressing, no matter where you are! A comfortable pair of linen pants will be a go to item in your wardrobe. It’s all about finding the right fit and style for you. You can find casual drawstring versions like this pair from H&M or a more tailored cut like the Artizia Effortless Pant. You’ll be reaching for them all summer long!

If you’re actually going to Europe this summer, sensible, yet chic footwear is a must. These sandals from Canadian brand Poppy Barley have been a go-to pair for us. They’re created with a cushioned footbed and arch support, along with straps to keep you comfortable and sure footed. We also love these simple and stylish sandals from Aldo, made with a thick rubber sole. This shoe has a classic style that will pair well with all your summer outfits.

The easiest way to look put together for a summer occasion is to wear a dress! Pick a fun summer print or shade that suits your style. Like this classic stripe dress with ruffle detail from Fine Finds or this sunset colour dress from ba&sh. For something clean and chic, we love this white tiered dress from COS.

Straw and Raffia accessories add the perfect touch to any summer outfit. We love the selection of handbags and baskets we’re seeing in stores. From Loewe to Saint Laurent, so many designers have their version of a straw bag. You can find these styles of bags at many of our favourite retailers like Coach, Simons and H&M.

For the final touch to your Euro chic outfit, add a silk scarf. Wear it in your hair, around your neck, or attached to your purse. The ultimate scarf would be a twilly from Hermes or a vintage Gucci print. For something more budget friendly check out this blue and white print from Mango or colourful print from Aritzia. You can also visit a local vintage store to find something unique and one of a kind.
