We’re big enthusiasts of indoor activities during Vancouver’s rainy winters and the annual Eastside Cultural Crawl this Nov. 17 to 20, 2016 is the perfect way to escape the doldrums. Here, hundreds of emerging and internationally established artists—painters, jewellers, photographers, furniture makers, potters, weavers and glassblowers—invite the public into their studios in Vancouver’s Strathcona area for a rare look at what goes into their work, and of course, the chance to purchase their works. • The Crow Flies

  This event celebrates the East Cultural Crawl’s 20th anniversary by showcasing the work of both past and present crawl artists. The Crow Flies is a multi-venue salon style exhibition that runs until November 28th. If you’re not sure where to start the crawl adventure, begin at one of these venues to inspire the direction your tour will take.

• Potter’s Wheel Demos

  The romantic in us has always wished for a Ghost moment on the potter’s wheel and now we can see a first-hand demo by clay artist Georgina Lohan at her studio in Mergatroid. If you’ve ever thought about taking a pottery class, watching a professional potter in action will be the inspiration you need to sign up for lessons.

• Glass Blowing

  Watching glass blowing is a mesmerizing and potentially meditative event as the molten glass takes shape into a piece of art, a functional object and more often than not, both. Glass blowing demos are happening at Terminal City Glass Co-op along with glass beading and other works on display by glass artists.

• Natural Dye Demos

  We might have tried tie-dye as kids (or adults) but now our eco-consciousness has us pining after an organic way of colouring our clothing. Textile artist Kirsten Sikora is going to demonstrate how to build organic vats and extract colour from wood chips, bananas and beetles!  

• Crawling for Kids 2016
