Yoga Poses To Open Up The 7 Chakras

July 22, 2023

Yoga is often used as a holistic practice to balance and align the body’s energy centers known as chakras. There are seven main chakras, each associated with different aspects of our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Here are some yoga poses that are believed to help open and activate each chakra:

  1. Root Chakra (Muladhara): Location: Base of the spine. Yoga Poses: Tadasana (Mountain Pose), Virabhadrasana I (Warrior I), Malasana (Garland Pose), Balasana (Child’s Pose).
  2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana): Location: Lower abdomen, just below the navel. Yoga Poses: Baddha Konasana (Bound Angle Pose), Upavistha Konasana (Seated Wide Angle Pose), Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), Natarajasana (Dancer’s Pose).
  3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura): Location: Upper abdomen, near the diaphragm. Yoga Poses: Navasana (Boat Pose), Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half Lord of the Fishes Pose), Warrior III (Virabhadrasana III), Ustrasana (Camel Pose).
  4. Heart Chakra (Anahata): Location: Center of the chest. Yoga Poses: Ustrasana (Camel Pose), Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), Matsyasana (Fish Pose), Anahatasana (Melting Heart Pose).
  5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): Location: Throat area. Yoga Poses: Matsyasana (Fish Pose), Setu Bandhasana (Bridge Pose), Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand), Halasana (Plow Pose).
  6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): Location: Between the eyebrows, just above the bridge of the nose. Yoga Poses: Balasana (Child’s Pose), Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend), Shavasana (Corpse Pose), Garudasana (Eagle Pose).
  7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): Location: Top of the head. Yoga Poses: Savasana (Corpse Pose), Sirsasana (Headstand), Ardha Pincha Mayurasana (Dolphin Pose), Vrikshasana (Tree Pose).

Remember, yoga is a deeply personal practice, and the effectiveness of these poses in balancing the chakras may vary from person to person. Additionally, focusing on breathwork and mindfulness during the practice can enhance the benefits. If you’re new to yoga or have specific concerns, it’s always a good idea to seek guidance from a certified yoga instructor to ensure proper alignment and safety in the practice. —Vita Daily
