July 26, 2023

Vancouver Farmers Markets offer the best of seasonal bounty weekly in locations around the city and they also have an exciting rotation of local food trucks. Here are five of our favourites. —Bronwyn Lewis

Disco Cheetah is frying up some fantastic food. They serve Korean fried chicken or tofu and cauliflower in rice bowls, salad bowls, or with fries. The chicken has outer crispiness and inner juiciness.

For grab and go Indian dishes, try Indish. This food truck is plant-forward and serves up rice bowls, paratha wraps, and perfectly crisp potato samosas. They even have a poutine. Indish serves up casual Indian-ish eats made with simple ingredients, elevated by family spice blends.

At Chou Chou, Nathalie Galin makes Breton crepes to order. The fillings range from sweet to savoury. On the savoury side, smoked salmon and cream cheese or ham and cheese with applesauce, with sweeter options including Nutella or butter, sugar, and Grand Marnier.

Another sweet option is Brownie Bakers. This mother daughter duo started as an Instagram account. Their brownie ice cream sandwich hit the spot on a hot day at the market, and they also serve iced coffee and tea drinks as well.

Now, Steve’s Smoked Meat is not a food truck but he can be found at farmers markets serving some life changing BBQ. Steve doesn’t take pre-orders so there will very likely be a line. His brisket is so fatty it jiggles, and so tender that you can tear it apart with your fingers, and that’s just one menu item.
