Mallorca Bread

Mallorca is where breathtaking scenery and stunning beaches await. Forget about Spain for a moment and dive into the irresistible delight of this Mallorca Bread recipe, a treat that will whisk you away to this Mediterranean paradise with each blissful bite. These treats possess a soft, pillowy texture reminiscent of the gentle waves caressing sandy shores.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons water, warm to touch
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Fleischmann’s Quick Rise Yeast
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 stick melted unsalted butter, divided
  • 2 large egg yolks, reserve the whites
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Confectioners sugar, for dusting

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl add the water & yeast. Let stand for 5 minutes to activate.
  2. Whisk in the milk, ⅓ cup melted butter, egg yolks, vanilla & sugar.
  3. Gradually add the flour & salt, stirring until dough comes together. Transfer to a lightly floured surface & gently knead into a ball. Cover & let rise until dough doubles in size, about 2 hours.
  4. Roll out dough to a thin rectangle, roughly 10 by 16 inches. Brush evenly with remaining melted butter & slice into 1-inch thick strips. Tightly roll each strip to create the spiral shape.
  5. Transfer to a lined baking sheet, cover & let rise a second time, about 45 minutes.
  6. Heat oven to 350(f) degrees. Lightly brush the top with the reserved egg white & bake until cooked throughout, about 20 minutes.
  7. Brush with additional butter if desired, dust generously with powdered sugar & enjoy!

Sand Dollar Cookies & Sea Glass Candy

Finding nice beaches in Canada is a tough endeavour, and at times, even unrealistic.However we refuse to let this minor speed bump dampen our summer aesthetic. Instead, let these Sand Dollar Cookies transport you to the waves of your favourite destination or elevate any beach-themed party. And for a complete seaside experience from home, pair them with this recipe for Sea Glass candy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 egg yolks (reserve the whites)
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fleischmann’s Baking Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Cinnamon sugar, for topping
  • Slivered almonds, for topping

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl cream together the butter & sugar until fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add the egg yolks, vanilla & almond extract. Beat until combined.
  2. Sift in the flour, baking powder & salt. Continue mixing on low speed until dough comes together.
  3. Shape into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap & refrigerate until firm.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375(f) degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  5. On a lightly floured surface roll out the dough to ¼ inch thick. Slice into 24 rounds using a biscuit cutter & transfer to the prepared baking sheets.
  6. Brush the tops lightly with the reserved egg whites & sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar. Gently press in slivered almonds in the pattern of a sand dollar.
  7. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes, until golden & cooked throughout. Let cool completely before removing from the baking sheet.

Ingredients:

  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup Crown Lily White Corn Syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon flavoured oil
  • Blue or green food colouring
  • Confectioners sugar, for dusting

Directions:

  1. Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. Set aside until ready to use.
  2. Add the sugar, corn syrup & water to a saucepan. Stir until combined. Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the pan.
  3. Over high heat, bring mixture to a boil & continue cooking until mixture reaches 300(f) degrees. Do NOT stir. As the temperature gets close to 300(f), add the flavoured oil & food colouring.
  4. Immediately pour mixture onto the prepared pan & let set until fully hardened.
  5. When candy has set, shatter the candy into pieces & dust the pieces in confectioners sugar.
  6. Transfer to an airtight container until ready to enjoy!
