National Hispanic Heritage Month is annually celebrated from September 15 to October 15. Ere Perez is a clean beauty brand influenced by founder Ere Perez’s Hispanic heritage. Ere grew up in Mexico, and later moved to Australia and built up her cosmetic empire, which launched in 2002. As a young girl, she found inspiration through her grandfather’s knowledge on traditional medicine and mother’s flair of home remedies, which lead her to find interest in nature and healing. Once Ere imigraterd to Australia, her cultural heritage and her dream beauty line came to life. Now Ere has launched beauty products that are loved worldwide. Some of its most-loved makeup products include the Avocado Waterproof Mascara, Carrot Colour Pot and Oat Milk Foundation. You can also find some skincare favorites from the White Tea Phyto-Retinol Elixir, Quandong Green Booster Serum and the Wild Tomato Riche Creme. We chatted with Ere to learn more. —Noa Nichol
When and why did you launch Ere Perez Cosmetics? What niche were/are you aiming to fill
I launched Ere Perez Natural Cosmetics back in 2002 out of a personal need for a naturally formulated product that would be gentle on my sensitive eyes. At the time, I couldn’t find a suitable option on the market. Our very first product was the Natural Almond Mascara, and remarkably, we’ve maintained the same formula for over 21 years!
What products do you currently offer, and what makes them unique?
With a background in nutrition and a strong passion for natural healing, I was inspired to develop products infused with powerful and nutritious ingredients. What sets our makeup and skincare apart is that our potent botanical ingredients are sourced with great care and respect for the environment, ensuring that they are sustainably harvested and not endangering any species.
Brand wise, how do your offerings fall into the clean beauty category?
Our commitment to clean beauty goes far beyond the industry’s evolving standards. In the last few years, the definition of clean beauty has indeed shifted. We firmly believe that being merely vegan or cruelty-free does not automatically qualify a product as ‘clean’. We choose to create formulas that are not only gentle on sensitive skin and free from harmful chemicals, but also eco-friendly. This commitment extends to our packaging, where we have already introduced zero waste products and have made substantial progress towards being 87% plastic-free and 90% recyclable!
How does your Hispanic upbringing inspire/inform your products and company?
When creating new products, we take influence from Australia’s bountiful nature and eco lifestyle, but thoughtfully blend it with Mexico’s rich colours & vibrant culture. My Hispanic upbringing brings a touch of fiesta, fun and flair to the brand! We infuse our brand with all the lively, colourful energy that I grew up with. In my family, we were always on the lookout for natural options within our home, and that’s a tradition I’ve carried into Ere Perez Natural Cosmetics. So, you could say our products are like a salsa dance for your skin – lively, vibrant, and all-natural!
Among your products, the Avocado Waterproof Mascara, Carrot Colour Pot and Wild Tomato Riche Creme are particularly intriguing to us! Tell us more about these?
It sounds like guacamole, doesn’t it?! Our Avocado Waterproof Mascara is a standout product, enriched with nourishing avocado oil. It was one of the first natural waterproof mascaras on the market and is still unrivalled today. Its handcrafted formula not only offers excellent waterproofing but also promotes lash health! Our Carrot Colour Pots are multitasking wonders to simplify your makeup routine. With a 15-year-old formula beloved by makeup artists, they add colour to your cheeks and lips, reducing the need for multiple products. The Wild Tomato Riche Creme draws inspiration from my grandmother’s age-old practice of using tomato skin as a serum and gently massaging it into the face. We’ve taken this tradition and turned it into a soothing, rich moisturizer – it’s beautifully simple yet incredibly effective, and a little goes a long way. It’s a testament to our brand’s commitment to providing quality products that stand the test of time.
If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only have one Ere Perez Cosmetics product with you, which one would it be and why?
Oh, that’s a tough one because I have three absolute favourites! If I had to choose just one product to have with me on a deserted island, it would be our Waterproof Mascara – an everyday beauty essential! Then the Australian Blue Cypress Face Nectar and our SOS Papaya Marmalade are equally fantastic. Both are miracle formulas for all sorts of skin fixes!
