Chinatown’s Oyster Express (OX) might be small but they boast a huge selection of both west coast and east coast oysters. Because of their size and the speed at which they serve, Oyster Express is able to source an impressive variety of fresh oysters.
Harbour Oyster + Bar on Commercial Drive serves up $2 fresh shucked oysters during their Happy Hour. They also have a Secret Menu Oyster Shot which includes an oyster and a shot of Harbour’s Caesar. You can down the oyster first and chase it with the shot, or, pour a little of the Caesar into the oyster and then enjoy both.
Bravo Bar is a newcomer to Fraser St. They just moved into the space formerly occupied by Ubuntu Canteen. Bravo is a cocktail and wine bar so the focus is primarily on the drinks but the menu also includes some delicious seafood dishes like fresh oysters with house-made Jalapeño and cucumber aguachile, and stone fruit and chili mignonette.
A classic and iconic spot, Joe Fortes sells so many oysters they have a designated bar for shucking them. In fact, the Joe’s Gold oyster variety they serve is named for the restaurant. The service is exceptional and the space suits any special occasion while still somehow feeling casual.
Smitty’s Oyster House on Main Street not only serves oysters freshly shucked but they also serve them broiled, pan fried, and on a po’ boy. Smitty’s also does a daily Happy Hour from 3pm to 6pm and they always have a fresh shucked oyster on special.
