Please tell us a bit about yourself to start.
My name is Edward Leung and I’m a member of the Cantomando trio, an Asian Canadian Youtube Channel based out of Toronto. Growing up as Chinese Canadian, I’ve had the fortunate experience of eating noodles almost every single day of my childhood. That’s one thing that I’m super grateful for since noodles are just so damn delicious!
National Noodle Day is right around the corner; why are noodles one of your favourite snacks/eats?
They’re easy to make, fills your stomach well and just fits so perfectly with any type of broth or sauce. That means there’s basically an unlimited amount of different flavours you can enjoy noodles with. If you want a heartier meal, go for a Tonkotsu Broth Ramen. Feeling for a lighter meal? Go get yourself a bowl of Pho. A quick flavourful bite around the house? Just mix some chili oil with plain noodles and you got yourself a meal with a kick. Noodles just work with everything. Not to mention that there are delicious noodle dishes to match any budget. It was definitely a lifesaver for me when I was still a student.
What’s your go-to noodle dish or recipe?
Nissins black sesame instant noodle. Can’t go wrong with that. That’s a classic and it’s not to expensive as well.
Top tips to our readers, to help them easily jazz/spice up their noodles at home?
I’m not even kidding with this one. But… “My Mom’s Chili”. It’s actually my mom’s homemade garlicky chili oil that we branded as “My Mom’s Chili”. We’ve been giving to professional chefs and food critics that we’ve been collaborating with recently and they all LOVED IT. It’s honestly perfect for adding that flavorful kick to any noodle dish.
Final question: spoon, fork or chopsticks?
Is that a rhetorical question? C’mon, obviously Chopsticks.
