Celebrate on November 7 and all through the fall and winter months with any of these magical merlots. —Catherine Dunwoody
Liquidity 2020 Merlot is described as bright and juicy, while being complex, with notes of blackcurrant, blueberry, and black tea. Plan on mushroom foraging this fall? Save some to sauté and pair this wine.
Chronos 2020 Merlot is velvety smooth with ripe flavours of dried cherry and cinnamon. We love it with a cheese plate or classic beef wellington.
Evan Saunders—winemaker at Blasted Church Vineyards, tells us, “Merlot is one of my favourites! When the grape is grown with care on a suitable site it has such a beautiful fruit profile, a softer tannin structure, and expresses its terroir incredibly well. To me, Merlot is on the very short list for the most well-suited red varieties for the south Okanagan.” Try the winery’s Blasted Church 2021 Merlot.
Township 7 Provenance Series Merlot 2020 is known to be seamless and supple, made with fruit from their Oliver estate in oak barrel aging, which softens tannins. Try it with a roasted pork loin and plum sauce.
Mission Hill 2021 Reserve Merlot is described as full-bodied and well structured with notes of wild blackberry and dark cherry. Pair it with roasted meats or savoury vegetable dishes.
