The Vancouver Aquarium recently unveiled its long-awaited renovations, and the results are beautiful. The redesigned external façade is studded with imaginative, glow in the dark, fish-shaped bricks, and constricted with ecologically-sound materials, including infrastructure to maximize rainwater use. New exhibits add to the fun inside; a fresh kids zone centers on the play-rehabilitation of stuffed marine animals, plus is stocked with tanks of touchable sea stars and anemones. A Lake Malawi exhibit sees flocking rainbow schools, and the Gulf Island tank shows off some local heros, like hot pink strawberry anemones and fancy decorator crabs. We favoured the Jamaican fruit bats (did you know they pollinate entire forests?) and the vivid Panamanian Golden Frogs, which, extinct in the wild, are being rehabilitated right here. Add in a sophisticated new indoor café that will pour an espresso shot over your soft serve, and we’re feeling a day at the Vancouver Aquarium for sure.
