A Vancouver Hairdresser Reveals The Biggest Hair Trends Of The Year

January 9, 2024

Looking for some tips on how to keep up with hair health and a glimpse into upcoming hair trends? We spoke with Metro Vancouver hair stylist, Clare Goossen, who is giving us the inside scoop on healthy hair, current trending looks and what we can expect to see more of in 2024. —Ashley Harris

Hi Clare! Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background as a hairdresser.

My name is Clare Goossen and I’ve been a hairstylist for 8 years now. I started working out of a hair salon at 20 years old and built my Instagram to gain my clients! The majority was through there & word of mouth. The trend at the time was platinum blonde so I really perfected my skill set, practiced lots and now I am a blonde specialist! I opened my own salon space, The Studio, 2 years ago in Tsawwassen. I wanted to make it a small, inviting space to have the ultimate comfortable experience.

What are some of the biggest hair trends you have been seeing recently? Any hair trend predictions that we might see in 2024?

For 2024 the biggest hair trends cut-wise I have seen are curtain bangs & layering! I think it works great because the Dyson Airwrap is so in right now and layers make it easy to have that bouncy blowout look. Colour-wise it seems to be people wanting their natural colour just ‘enhanced’ with subtle balayage and more of a natural Sophia Ritchie blonde. She has been in many inspo photos I’ve seen! I think everyone’s learning to embrace their natural colour and I think it’s awesome.

Please spill your hair care tips!

The hidden secret to hair care is consistency. I have been obsessing over rosemary oil especially when I’m doing a slick back look! I just get it off Amazon and am going on my third bottle. The perfect clean girl hack to having hydrated hair & still having a snatched look. Another big one is mousse! I know that sounds scary but the Color Wow Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer has changed my life – especially if you want your style to hold! Apply it before your blowdry and your style will last for days.

What are some of your favourite hair products / how can people achieve that straight from the salon-styled look at home?

My go-to hair wash day consists of putting in a hair mask 15-20 minutes before I shower (I recommend any of the Amika ones) shampoo & condition like normal. Once towel dried I use the Color Wow Dream Coat & Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer – blow dry with my Dyson and then finish it by using the airwrap & topping it off with the Amika hair spray! Ultimate at-home salon blowout.
