Much to our delight (sorry, we couldn’t resist), a chic Turkish cafe has opened on the King West strip.
The brightly lit Simit & Chai has the marble tables, salvaged wood benches, brick walls and pretty potted greenery (plus wifi and plenty of outlets) that make it a coffee shop dream for those looking to work on their laptop and, let’s face it, Instagrammers. And does the intense Turkish tea and coffee (served in a colourful Turkish cup and saucer, natch), and the tasty sesame- or poppy-seed simit (aka Turkish bagel). Enjoy this baked molasses-dipped bread with Nutella or olive tapenade, or select from the menu of sandwich fillings such as brie and prosciutto. Sweet tooths will not want to miss the muffins (the fig and walnut is top notch), and best of all about this new spot is the sweet young couple, Candeniz and Duygy Ulgen, who own this lovely new addition to King West.
Welcome to the neighbourhood, Simit & Chai. —Karen Kwan
