The DOXA Documentary Film Fest is kicking off April 30th-May 10th, and we want to send you to its closing night film: Iris, a tribute to indelible 93-year-old fashion icon Iris Apfel. You may be familiar with the Advanced Style denizen; her dish-sized eyeglasses (she’s farsighted) and thickly layered accessorized (haggled for in Harlem or picked up on her travels) have become a signature distinctive enough that the New York Costume Institute dressed mannequins in her likeness for a smash-hit 2005 exhibition that made her an octogenarian it-girl. The doc, produced by the late Albert Maysles, celebrates Apfel’s intrepid, open-minded taste and intuitive style, as well as her past work (she redecorated generations of the White House as an interior designer) and whimsical lifestyle (the scenes of her New York apartment, stacked with clothing and wild collections of toys, are a joy to take in). Iris screens in Vancouver April 10th (Mother’s Day, ahem) and we’re giving away two (2) pairs of tickets for a stylish and exuberant movie night.
