When it comes to cravings, we often have a hankering for, say, pizza or sushi, but for French cuisine? It’s rare.
That is until La Banane came into the picture. For one, the space, with its dark walls, quirky art, statement pendant lights and beautiful marble raw bar, is glamourous without being stuffy and had us immediately plotting to redecorate at home. And then the dishes we ordered were presented to us—we say "presented" because these all demanded a spotlight. Substantial Dungeness crab claws served with both cocktail sauce and a tarragon mayo and a lemon wedge, sweetbreads and hedgehog mushrooms in a delicate blanquette and the eurobass en croute (which you get to peek at in all of its latticework glory before it’s precisely deboned and bathed with yuzu beurre montée).
Summed up: c’était magnifique. —Karen Kwan
