Tahiti’s 5 Top Sustainable Resorts To Visit This Earth Day

Did you know that the Islands of Tahiti has published a strategic roadmap called Fari’ira’a Manihini 2027 that outlines the destination’s commitment to becoming one of the leading regions in the Pacific for inclusive and sustainable tourism? Here are some highlights:

• The tourism sector represents 80-85% of Tahiti’s earned income
• Under specific objectives, the report highlights the need to provide training in sound environmental practices, multiply the number of managed ecotourism zones, and to identify and protect cultural values
• The report includes the key pillar of managing the rate of visitation at around 280,000 per year by 2027, which would maintain a close ratio of one visitor per one inhabitant

Below, five of the most eco-responsible resorts and hotels in the Islands of Tahiti that are embodying Fari’ira’a Manihini 2027 and working to keep French Polynesia preserved from overtourism ahead of Earth Day. —Vita Daily

1.      The Brando is an eco-luxury resort at the forefront of sustainable tourism, having implemented one of the first-ever seawater air conditioning systems globally. It was also the first hotel in the world to obtain LEED Platinum certification and continues to use innovative measures in energy conservation, water resource management and environmental preservation.

2.      The InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa has a Fare Reserve, a protected area for marine wildlife. The reserve shelters a coral ecosystem, which recreates a natural underwater habitat for over 200 species.
