Calgary’s, and Western Canada’s, first Oliver and Bonacini restaurant has finally arrived. And we are really excited about it. The beautiful new eatery is inside the historic Hudson’s Bay building on Stephen Avenue and wows with chic décor and one of the city’s biggest patios. Alberta’s own Chef Ryan O’Flynn is at the helm and has created an incredible menu—which includes plenty of meat-centric dishes like local beef, game and fowl—that has foodie-types buzzing around the city. Everything is amazing but the Braised Jacob’s Ladder Bison, served with Saskatoon-style rice, Prairie corn and pickled leeks can’t be missed. And, of course, the cocktail menu doesn’t disappoint with classic and tailored cocktails; the El Chapo, made with tequila, lime, avocado, cilantro and jalapeno is as good as it sounds.
Do yourself a favour and get there this weekend. —Sara Samson
