Spend The Summer “Under The Sea” @ Metropolis At Metrotown

Metropolis at Metrotown, B.C.’s largest shopping centre, is partnering with Ocean Wise this summer, to transform into an “Under The Sea” hub for family-friendly events and activities, including The Met’s first-ever Night Market, a Summer Passport program, and a fun Under The Sea parade filled with marine mammals and music from now until September 2.

Keep cool “Under The Sea” this summer with a variety of fun-filled, family events at Metropolis at Metrotown that will excite and engage all your senses! Here are 7 events to participate in for a chill summer: 

1. Immerse in underwater decor. Admire the stunning jellyfish, coral reef and seaweed décor, along with a colourful assortment of sea creatures. The installations, hosted at several mini-parks throughout the centre, culminate in an impressive main display in the Grand Court.
   
2. Take professionally managed photos at the Grand Court display. From July 17-19, 11am-5pm; and July 20-28, 11am-7pm, pose for photos at the Grand Court’s undersea wonderland! In addition to ocean-themed props, the display features a fun and engaging sea creature that visitors can pose with. Pricing starts at $20 with a selection of packages available; and a portion of proceeds will be donated to Ocean Wise. Guests can reserve their photo spot at www.metropolisatmetrotown.com.
   
3. Enjoy a dazzling Under the Sea parade. On July 6 and 20, and August 3, from 12pm-1:30pm, parade participants –adorned in eye-popping sea creature costumes designed by Lazy Wizard – will congregate at each mini-park, providing the perfect photo opportunity for shoppers. The parade starts at Zara and ends in the Grand Court.

4. Spend $150 and receive a free gift.  From July 12-21, treat yourself and your loved ones to a day of shopping! Shoppers who spend $150 or more will get a free gift – perfect for the pool or beach.
   
5. Marvel at ocean life under a Sea Dome. Hosted by Ocean Wise, on July 13 and 14 in the Grand Court, a six-metre inflatable dome will display 360-degree 4K footage of stunning ocean environments. Visitors can speak with expert educators about threats to the ocean and actions for protection, and explore interactive learning stations with ocean artifacts.
   
6. Feast at the brand-new Night Market at the Met. From July 4-7, enjoy a free-to-enter night market, populated by street vendors such as Wakwak Burgers, Aburi’s WA Bagel, Butcher’s Block BBQ, Kam Wai Dim Sum, Bon Moment, La Meza Grill, Don Oso, Connies Cravings and Bak’d. Additional fun activities include, a free photo booth with an Under the Sea backdrop; live music, a street circus, and dancers; and daily face painting and balloon-making. Visitors can also try the Spin and Win – for every $25 spent at the night markets, visitors get to spin the wheel to win a prize.
   
7. Journey through The Met with a Summer Passport. From June 19 – September 2, pick up a Summer Passport at Guest Services and explore! Take photos, find free samples (including ice cream and drinks), and collect stamps along the way. Seven stamps earns a gift, and 10 stamps earns a chance to win one of three $100 gift cards to Metropolis at Metrotown.
