Back during Pride weekend we got the chance to drop into the Commodore for a live show by the cast of one of our favourite TV shows, RuPaul’s Drag Race.
For the un-initiated, the reality series has all the competitive verve of America’s Next Top Model and the design-oriented intensity of Project Runway, but with drag queens. At the end of each episode the bottom two contestants have a lip-sync battle to stay on the show. It’s fabulous. The recent event was hosted by Season 6 winner Bianca del Rio, a sasspot with a heart of gold, and saw fun performances like stand-up comedy by Pandora Box, an entertainer in a My-Little-Pony-inspired getup and an incredibly on-point Missy Elliot impression by fan-favourite Jiggly Caliente. Our top act? 24-year-old Adore Delano, who sings her own original songs (her album, "Till Death Do Us Party," debuted this summer).
Adore is headlining her own show in Vancouver on August 21st, 2014; if you want a concert to remember, we recommend checking her out. —Adrienne Matei
