Lo-Fi Wedding Makeup Is Trending: Products To Use

July 4, 2024

The era of less-is-more for wedding makeup started back in 2018 when Megan Markle stepped on to the world stage at her royal wedding with an ultra-minimalist look focused on glowy skin, freckles and a light flush of rosy-nude tones highlighting her eyes, lips, and cheeks. There were no major lashes, no statement brows, no overly blushed cheeks. Markle’s wedding makeup was pure clean girl aesthetic and a moment in wedding makeup that sparked a change up towards less-is-more looks for the big day.

Last year’s bridal beauty icon Sophia Richie Grainge took the no-makeup vibe to a little glossier level with her quiet luxury wedding vibe, keeping her wedding makeup soft and subtle, but added a bit more drama with some seriously lit skin. This year, the evolution of lo-fi wedding makeup continues, and Gen Z It Bride driving the trend is Call Her Daddy podcast host Alexandra Cooper who married husband Matthew Kaplan in April in a dreamy destination wedding in Rivera Maya, Mexico. Her wedding wardrobe was a standout, featuring multiple looks which included fashion-forward designs from Danielle Frankel, as well as vintage Versace and Donna Karan pieces.

Cooper’s beauty look was equally iconic, all easy-breezy hair and sun kissed skin. Lucky for us she just shared a complete Vogue tutorial on her wedding makeup look. “Something that was really important to me on my wedding day was to make sure I looked like myself,” shares Cooper in the online video. She then goes on to break down the handful of key products she used for her wedding makeup.

A luxe foundation is the star Cooper used to perfect her skin tone—she loves Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Perfect Glow Flawless Foundation ($93) because it delivers coverage and radiance but still lets her freckles shine through. Cooper used a few thoughtfully applied swipes of Makeup By Mario SoftSculpt Shaping Stick ($44) to give her face super-snatched definition. Glossier Lash Slick Lift and Lengthening Mascara ($27) gave a pop to her eyes. And the main character product that Cooper used to imbue her skin with a just-married flush? Nudestix Nudies Matte + Glow Core in Pink Ice ($34), a juicy warm pink shade which was applied and expertly blended all over her cheeks and along the bridge of her nose to create the rosiest, most romantic of bridal glow ups. —Alison McGill
