There’s lots to love about winter: roaring fires, puffy jackets (yup, they’re in again) and turkey dinners come to mind. On the flip side, getting sick, to be perfectly frank, sucks. That’s why, this year, we’re facing cold and flu season with a few tricks up our sweater sleeves—simple steps that can help address the symptoms and get us (and you) back on your feet (and out of bed) sooner:

breathe easy. Having a blocked nose can be one of the worst parts of being sick. You can pair up oral cold medications with a saline spray like hydraSense®—100 per cent naturally sourced sea water that’s clinically proven to help get rid of nasal congestion from colds so you can breathe better and concentrate on getting the rest you need.

ice, ice baby. Simple but effective, sucking on ice chips can help temporarily relieve a sore or scratchy throat by numbing and calming some of the inflammation that’s causing your pain. Other ways to soothe a sore throat include gargling warm salt water or sipping on a warm herbal tea (chamomile is classic, but trendy turmeric—a member of the ginger family—may also help provide relief from throat pain or irritation).

vitamin boost. If your sick-day meals are more microwave friendly than health conscious (we’re looking at you, instant noodles), it’s important to get essential nutrients you need with a multivitamin. Not a fan of pills? One A Day® Gummies taste great and help the body metabolize carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

And, for some added vitamin C, we like to add a Redoxon® tablet into half a glass of cold water—there are 10 oranges’ worth of vitamin C in just one tablet† (and there’s always a tube of Redoxon® in our drawer)!

With our medicine cabinet stocked, our ice trays filled and our tea kettle ready to roll(ing boil), we’re ready for whatever winter throws our way in the cold and flu department. Stay well! —Vita Daily
