We’ve found lbs. we are happy to be gaining, for once.
The new restaurant lbs., pronounced “pounds” and standing for lobster, burger and salad serves up just that, but it does it well, with each main dish ringing in at $22. We stuck to the shellfish choices: the buttery roll loaded with lobster meat had us wishing we’d gone for a double order, and the Nova Scotia lobster was just as tender and satisfying. French fry fans will want a quiet moment to themselves to truly savour the crispy-on-the-outside frites (we reco the truffle aioli to dip them into)—in fact, we’re already planning on getting the lobster poutine ($20) next time (which proved so good, the couple at the next table did not speak a single word to each other the entire time they shared the dish).
With a variety of delicious craft cocktails and an impressive wine list, lbs., decked out with blue leather banquettes and pretty tiling, is a welcome addition to the restaurant game in this financial district portion of Yonge Street. —Karen Kwan
