Going to the gym is no runway show, let’s get that straight. No one really cares what you look like while working out, and if they do, that’s a them problem. Nonetheless, if you do happen to find yourself wanting to put a little extra effort into your gym look, there’s no judgment there, either! Sometimes we all want to look and feel our best, even while working up a sweat. There’s always that one person at the gym who just looks so effortlessly cool and chic, and she was our muse while creating this guide! —Bailey Grant
The Base:
When it comes to gym dressing, a matching workout set is key! Leggings, flared or regular, paired with a matching sports bra, provide an effortless yet put-together look. Plus, it’s the perfect base to build off of! From there, you can choose to add a boxy cropped tee, an oversized hoodie, or a form-fitting zip-up for some added layering and styling if you so please.
The Shoes:
Arguably the most important element of a gym outfit is the shoes. Not only can they make or break an entire look, but having a great pair of well-performing trainers is quite essential for working out. There are a ton of great options on the market that are equal parts practical as they are stylish, like On’s Cloud sneakers, for instance.
The Accessories:
Never underestimate the power of accessories–even in sportswear! From the right socks to the best water bottle, every detail counts. Let’s start from the head down.
For obvious reasons, your hair should always be out of your face when you work out. You can do that with a simple ponytail or take it up a level with a baseball cap, which somehow always looks extra chic paired with a gym fit.
Next, a controversial choice, but earrings and/or jewelry. In general, probably not a great idea, but if you’re having a chill workout day, a pair of gold huggies are such a vibe with activewear.
If there’s one element we’ve noticed about every chic gym outfit, is a pair of over-ear headphones. It doesn’t even really matter what brand, but a pair of wireless headphones gets major style points while working out.
For the sake of gym dressing, a water bottle is, in fact, an accessory, too. Plastic water bottles are so out, and stainless steel ones are so in—if not for the outfit, at least for the environment! Owala’s are a great (and trendy) water bottle option.
Lastly, the socks. A great outfit can be ruined with the wrong socks. It’s just how it is. So what are the “right” sock, you ask? A pair of white socks slouched at the ankles. Trust us.
The Finishing Touch:
In the end, it’s all about how you carry yourself. Wear whatever you feel your most confident in, and you’ll instantly look 10 times more chic. The gym can already be an intimidating environment, so the last thing you need to worry about is what other people think. The chicest people of all do it for themselves!
