August is the Sunday of Summer. A time to regroup and prepare for a fresh start. Within the fashion world, September remains a pivotal month in the calendar. From the industry’s bible, Vogue, releasing their highly anticipated September issue, the biggest of the year, to the nostalgia that many of us feel in the final weeks of summer of back-to-school shopping as children and teens.
If you feel like hitting the refresh button on your style and wardrobe this September, here are the season’s biggest trends as seen in the F/W 2024 runway shows. Don’t forget, if you’re feeling the pressure of the never ending trend cycle, you can find many staple pieces in your existing wardrobe which can be reimagined to fit the new season’s trends and silhouettes. Structured Silhouette
The oversized look that has ruled street style for the last few seasons is moving over to make way for structured silhouettes. Sleeves are bigger than ever with exaggerated shoulder pads, while skirts and dresses are being designed to accentuate the female figure with beautifully architectured bell shapes. Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2024 ready to wear in particular features hyper structured silhouettes, reminiscent of plastic doll clothes. An easy way to transition your summer wardrobe would be to keep the bubble skirt you’ve been wearing all summer in your fall rotation. Ribbons & Bows
Those who had a soft girl summer are going to have a coquette girl fall. One of the longest standing feminine accessories is seeing a resurgence, the use of decorative ribbons and bows. This trend is incredibly versatile and easy to indulge in. Whether you want to tie a ribbon in your hair, a bow around your collared shirt for a little Blair Waldorf moment, or lean in hard with some of the new designs adorned with ornate ribbons and bows. Feminine 60s Influence
With the release of the fashion-forward “Palm Royale” on Apple TV this year, it’s no surprise that we’re seeing a 1960s influence in the current styles. The ‘60s was marked by mod fashion – boxy silhouettes with itsy bitsy hemlines. Inspired by the popularization of pop art and psychedelic use of the time, prints were both whimsical and colorful – think Pucci and flower power.
