In this case, “Os Gemeos,” Portuguese for “twins,” references 40-year-old brothers Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo, who employ the handle when creating their internationally acclaimed, exuberantly surrealist and utterly fantastical street-art spectacles—of which Vancouver will soon boast the world’s largest.
In light of the Vancouver Biennial, 7,200 square metres of Granville Island silo space you’ve totally never noticed before is now a contemporary public mural depicting OSGEMEOS’ signature ochre figures. Portrayed with a rakish, ramshackle charm, the piece looks to (quite literally) add character to a neighbourhood soon set to lose its artistic epicentre, with the upcoming relocation of Emily Carr University.
The mural will be unveiled in its finality on September 7th; until then, stop by for a glimpse of a world-class work-in-progress. —Adrienne Matei
