Kate Snyder is the co-founder and principal of Studio Roslyn, an interior design and creative consulting studio located in Vancouver, her creative and colourful approach to design has resulted in stunning one-of-a-kind spaces like the Fairmont Lobby Lounge, Just Another Cafe + Bar, La Bomba Floristry, Stz’uminus Nutsumaat and more.
On Saturday, September 28, Kate will be speaking at the Interior Design Show Vancouver – the Pacific platform for all things design. Her keynote session, Fearless Style: Tips from the Pros will explore how being bold and embracing colour is the only way to stand apart in a sea of beige interiors.
Ahead of IDS Vancouver, Kate shared with us her top three design tips to incorporate bold colour into your home!
Layered Textiles and Accessories
Use bold colours in textiles like rugs, throw pillows and curtains. This allows you to experiment with colour without committing to a large, permanent change. Mix and match patterns and textures to create a dynamic, lively space that reflects your personality. I find that ‘more is more’ to be true. If you commit to layering pattern on pattern, it just seems to work.
Make a Statement
Introduce bold colours through statement furniture pieces like a vibrant sofa, a bold patterned armchair, or a colourful dining table. Create a colour palette for the rest of the surrounding decor that pulls from the statement piece.
Mix Old and New
Use bold colors to bridge the gap between antique and contemporary furniture. For example, place a modern, brightly coloured rug under an antique coffee table, or pair a vibrant, contemporary art piece with a classic, antique mirror. The bold colour acts as a unifying element, creating a cohesive look that blends the charm of the old with the energy of the new.
