Professional hockey player Sarah Nurse exudes power, style and grace on and off the ice. Whether she’s wearing chic separates or effortlessly rocking streetwear, her wardrobe reflects her dynamic personality—bold, confident and unapologetically authentic. The PWHL Toronto forward says her personal style is vibrant, fun and unique: “I am not someone who likes to dress ‘basic’; I love to wear pieces that really pop. I love to pick a piece and build an outfit around that, whether it be a jacket or a really cool pair of pants.”

Athleisure, naturally, plays heavily into the Olympic champion’s wardrobe, with Adidas being her mainstay, but Nurse also has a penchant for designer bags: “Lately I’ve been addicted to all things Dior, Prada and Fendi. [Never would I part with] my pink sequin Fendi baguette, my Dior lady d-joy bags, my sparkly Prada bag—basically my bag collection!”
With the explosion of “tunnel fits” the walk to the game has become its own runway for athletes; a moment for #ootd and social media shares. “I think it’s really fun that athletes can express themselves with their pre-game outfits,” Nurse says. “I also think that fashion and sports intersect a lot because they are two elements of culture that can bring people together and really wow fans. You can show your personal style off the ice and your athletics style on the ice.”
Indeed, this intersection between sports and style is energizing. “I think this new generation of athletes is really leaning into what makes them unique,” she explains. “We often play sports and think we need to be in a uniform, but us women have such great style and are really getting to show it off. I think it’s exciting to have a platform that people look to for style tips and advice, and that we’re able to get this recognition.”
Like most, Nurse seeks inspiration online and cultivates her personal style through a mix of celebrity and social media. “I find a lot on social and by looking to celebrities and media outlets. I’ve always been obsessed with what Rhianna wears!” Keen on fashion and beauty from a young age, Nurse often rocks bold looks and a signature red lip. Whether shopping online or IRL, she names SSENSE, Revolve and Aritzia as her go-tos.
But fashion for this star athlete is more than just clothes—it’s a form of self-expression and a way to channel energy away from the pressures of the game. “Dressing gives me a creative outlet and the ability to spend energy on different areas of my game day rather than getting too stressed about the game and overthinking it.” She loves putting together outfits that are loud and attention-grabbing, and prefers being overdressed to underdressed.
Given the chance to splurge, Nurse already knows what she’d add to her closet “More bags! I’ve been eyeing a leopard YSL one I saw on TikTok, and I would love to get my hands on a Birkin someday.” —Lauren Walker-Lee
