You say robata, we say delicious.
Until recently we weren’t familiar with robata—the Japanese method of grilling seafood, meats and veggies over an open hearth. Now that we’ve tasted the treats at Shibui Robota Bar in the Entertainment District, we can’t get enough of this fireside cooking style. Helmed by chef Masaki Nakayama, Shibui is Toronto’s first authentic robata hot charcoal restaurant. Our picks from the menu: the buttery miso-marinated black cod is melt-in-your-mouth delicious and the lamb, in a spicy Korean miso glaze, is not to be missed. Other delights include super-fresh sashimi, pork belly and Chilean sea bass dumplings.
The food coma we endured to bring you this review was well worth it. —Karen Kwan
