For the bar, Cahoots Simple Syrups ($16 each) are rendered in Vancouver through a long, cold brew, resulting in a bright flavour profile DIY versions lack (so, yes, these syrups are paradoxically complex).
Currently available in Lemon, Classic and Hibiscus (with a local-sourced Lavender on the way and our request for Violet pending), the syrups elevate cocktails effortlessly (the company’s recipe for the Botanical Garden—a gin-lime-mint concoction mixed with chilled black tea and hibiscus syrup—made a killer punch bowl at our last brunch). We’d recommend brushing the buttery lemon flavour over pound cakes, too. In addition to making a tasty product, the line’s graphic-designer founders are savvy to the bar esthetic, creating attractive syrup bottles labelled with intricate monochrome illustrations that remind us of something the New Yorker might print.
A perfect hostess gift and pretty addition to a bar cart, it’s safe to say we’re in. —Adrienne Matei
