Nope, we’re not talking snow (though it may be there when you look out your window today). We’re talking wine. Winter whites to be specific, suitably sipped with our favourite seasonal meals, or just curled up on the couch. Some oaky, some buttery, some flinty—all fabulous. Alois Lageder Pinot Grigio is vibrant, fruity but dry, and lovely with a creamy mushroom pasta.
Coolshanagh Chardonnay, proudly made in Naramata, BC is similar to a French Meursault. A delicate dance of fresh honeysuckle, mango and pineapple with herbal notes and a long finish.
Antinori Chardonnay is also Italian, a bit floral with a refined minerality, and notes of peach, lime and apple, perfect with seafood dishes.
Singletree Grüner Veltliner is a star from this Abbotsford winery’s line up, with its notes of vanilla, elderflower, citrus, and apricot. Plays nicely with spicy foods, try it was a Thai curry.
B.C.’s CedarCreek Estate Riesling with its mineral depths, citrus and tropical fruit notes pairs perfectly with a cheese platter.
Oliver’s Kismet Estate Winery’s 2023 Pino Grigio just earned a Double Gold at the All Canadian Wine Awards. Young winemaker Manpreet Dhaliwal is Canada’s only South Asian winemaker and someone to watch.
The Okanagan’s Liquidity Estate Viognier has hints of jasmine, green tea, apricot, and Meyer lemon peel but also that grounding minerality you’d expect from a viognier. Pair it with roasted vegetables and meats.
Township 7 2022 Provenance Series Chardonnay is subtly oaked, with notes of apple, pineapple, and citrus, plus a bit of spice. Try it with cacio e pepe pasta (a simple dish with cheese and pepper) for the perfect night in.
Fontana Fredda Gavi di Gavi from Italy is nice with fish and other seafood, especially since it’s well-balanced with notes of citrus, light florals, and earthy almond.
