Whether you’re waiting to for an update on a loved one’s health status, or recovering from illness yourself, having a beautiful piece of art to admire can bring solace, respite and distraction. This is exactly the line of thought behind the art donation programs of Vancouver’s hospitals, where sterile white walls are turned into galleries showcasing some of the city’s most prominent works.
The hardest working art in the city hangs on the walls of Vancouver General and UBC, Lions Gate, St Paul’s and BC Children’s Hospitals. Each of these medical institutions believe strongly in the benefits of the ability of fine art to transform and humanize the hospital and to offer moments of refuge and transportation for staff, patients and their families.
Sophisticated, dynamic, growing and unique in their origin, the hospital art collections feature a range of mediums such as painting, photography and sculpture and represent local and international artists; all of which are generously donated.
