Whimsical Watercolour Exhibition Celebrates Local Artists

October 11, 2016

Vancouver is a city full of unique art communities, and if you seek them out, you will be rewarded with engaging art, great conversation and an irrevocable cultural high.

One such little cultural gem in the city is the life drawing studio and gallery Basic Inquiry. The nonprofit organization is run solely by volunteers, and has been providing resources for artists to learn about drawing the human figure since the ‘80s, offering more weekly session than any other studio in Vancouver.

Basic Inquiry also shows the work of its members via rotating exhibitions presenting a range of mediums and subjects. Opening on October 14th is a display titled Tributaries featuring watercolour paintings by four artists: Leslie Gould, Merry Meredith, Stefan Brunhoff and Alain Boullard

Boullard, who moved to Vancouver from Paris, France in 1969, delicately captures en plen air the ever-changing light around the urban and natural locales of Vancouver. His images are inspiring to go out and view for yourself the remarkable details of this region. But each artist brings their own “stream” of work to culminate into a collective of dynamic watercolour explorations; a medium that is fresh, spontaneous, difficult to master and exceptionally captivating. —Laura Busby
