Turkey. Mash. Pie. The Thanksgiving staples. This year, we’re putting a twist on the traditional holiday meal with a cool new kitchen tool, the Moulinex Expert Fryer ($249.99, exclusively at Canadian Tire).
Naysayers will tell you to deep fry nothing. Ever. Our thought: maybe not EVERY night but, with a machine as sophisticated as the Expert Fryer, you get to control the ingredients and cooking method when you do crave a treat on a special occasion. Go to a restaurant that fries, and who knows what you’ll get.
Case in point: last weekend we did a trial run ahead of our Thanksgiving feast. Boy, does this semi-professional fryer make it easy (it’s handsome, too, with a brushed stainless steel finish that fits in like the kitchen sink). We flipped through the gourmet recipe book provided by Moulinex and, for our entree, chose the Small Fried Chickens. After some initial prepwork, we popped our battered game hens into the fryer and, 10 minutes later, retrieved perfectly crisp on the outside, succulent and cooked to perfection on the inside chicken.
Side-wise, Moulinex helped us make two delicious options. The Stuffed Zucchini Flowers bloomed in the Expert Fryer in about a minute or so, while the Forshmak Mouthfuls (chock full of fall harvest ingredients like potato, apple and walnuts), fried for just 5 minutes, reminded us of extra-delicious stuffing.
Finally, dessert. Yes, deep-fried Thanksgiving dessert, made at home (something to be super thankful for!). Again, from the recipe book, we went with Donut Holes, served with a to-die-for Coffee Custard Sauce. These little cinnamon-and-sugared beauties took but a quick minute to fry up, and were gobbled down in even less time than that …
