This World Wish Day, dessert is doing more than delighting taste buds—it’s making dreams come true. In a heartwarming new collaboration, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has teamed up with Make-A-Wish to launch their first-ever Bake-A-Wish Challenge, a global initiative that brings together culinary talent and wish recipients to create desserts as meaningful as they are mouthwatering.
Held at the historic Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle, the challenge paired three celebrated Fairmont chefs with young Make-A-Wish alumni to co-create dream desserts based on personal stories, favourite flavours, and cherished memories. Hosted by lifestyle personality Melanie Sutrathada, the event not only showcased the creativity of the participants but also highlighted the power of a shared mission: bringing joy to children facing critical illnesses.
Among the inspired creations:
- S’mores Cake by Chef Eraj Jayawickreme and Roux (18), featuring graham cracker cake, chocolate crème anglaise, and scratch-made marshmallows torched tableside—evoking Roux’s love of s’mores and a recent wish trip to New York City.
- Coconut Tres Leches with Caramelized Pineapple by Chef Nancy Guerrero and Theo (9), blending tropical flavours inspired by Theo’s Hawaiian wish experience and a beloved family recipe shared with his grandfather.
- Passionfruit Strawberry Yogurt Cake by Chef Isabel Chung and Jacqueline (16), celebrating Jacqueline’s Guatemalan roots and her love of strawberries, complete with delicate edible petals and a heartfelt nod to her Quinceañera and her beloved pup.
Though the Strawberry Yogurt Cake won top marks from the event judges, Fairmont couldn’t pick just one—each participating hotel will have the opportunity to feature any of the three winning desserts on their menus beginning April 29, with proceeds benefiting Make-A-Wish. It’s a sweet gesture that brings hope, joy, and indulgence to hotel guests and wish families alike.
“This is just one small way we are honoring the amazing things Make-A-Wish does, and the inspiring legacy of World Wish Day,” says Fairmont CEO Omer Acar. “We hope you love these dream-inspired desserts as much as we do.”
The Bake-A-Wish Challenge is the latest chapter in the Wishes Start Here program, a long-standing global partnership between Fairmont and Make-A-Wish that has spanned more than 20 years. This initiative continues that tradition, serving up both inspiration and impact in every bite.
