Staycation: The Loden Hotel

August 6, 2015

lodenRelax, detox and dine at this urban oasis.

sleep: A garden suite has doors that open to a little fountain and Buddha that make you forget you are in the thick of downtown. Touches like a carafe of filtered water delivered at turndown and yoga mats (plus a fee yoga channel on TV) add to the urge to wind down.

caffeinate: Come morning, gather at the complimentary Nespresso machines in the lobby and channel the Euro-chic of the clientele checking in.

lodendo: Book a cruiser bike to do a lap of Stanley Park but, failing that (yes they are popular), jump on an air-conditioned treadmill at the gym looking out over a garden patio and book a detoxing infra-red sauna ($25 for 30 minutes).

lodendine: Lunch among politicos (fascinating eavesdropping) and real estate brokers hatching deals at the amazing Tableau Bar Bistro with its French-style open-air façade. The new summer power lunch is the steelhead trout on almond quinoa with brown butter, $18 with a hard-to-get glass of Okanagan’s TH Wines‘ rosé. —Sarah Bancroft
