tavolaImagine having an award-winning Italian chef in the palm of your hand, plus access to his secret recipes at the tip (tap) of your finger.

Daniel Costa of Corso 32 and Bar Bricco in Edmonton has extinguished the traditional cookbook with his new app for iOS, christened Tavola (that’s “table” in Italian). The interactive, free app pairs 15 Italian recipes with wine and music—a digital tool box of tips and tricks for home cooking. Need a playlist while prepping those veggies? Costa’s app’s got that, as well as exportable ingredient lists that let you email your shopping list to your partner. Possibly the coolest feature? You can tweet the chef directly from the app to ask questions about ingredients or techniques while you’re making that roasted tomato, mozzarella and pine nut crostini.

We can’t wait to throw our next dinner party. —Janis Galloway
