Getting Ready For Fall: Fall Design Trends

August 22, 2025

Décor & Design

As summer fades and crisp air begins to settle in, it’s time to cozy up our homes and embrace the aesthetic shift that comes with fall. This season brings cozy comfort and falling leaves—it’s also a chance to refresh your interior with warm, inviting design choices. Whether you’re redecorating a room or simply looking to update a few key pieces, these fall design trends can help transform your space into an autumnal haven.  Julie Lepper

Earthy, Muted Tones

Say goodbye to the bright, breezy hues of summer and hello to the comforting palette of fall. This year, I am seeing rich terracottas, olive greens, deep burgundies, and golden mustards. These colors don’t just mimic the changing leaves—they bring depth and warmth to your interiors. Pair them with natural textures for a cozy, grounded atmosphere.

Quiet Elegance

Let’s be honest, the most successful interiors are the ones, that just feel good to be in. Creating that timeless, well curated lived in style is not easy to do. Layering natural materials and textures, from gauzy knit throws, hand block printed pillows to velvet cushions and wool statement rugs, layering different materials adds both visual interest and comfort. Try combining hand made ceramics with rough wood, or metal accents with soft textiles, to strike a balance between rustic and refined.

Colour Drenching

Colour drenching is an interior design technique where a single color is applied across multiple surfaces in a room — including walls, ceilings, trim, furniture, and even decor — to create a cohesive, immersive look. It creates a wrap around effect and can create a seriously cozy and dramatic fall look. If you have architectural details, like molding and doors, in the same colour it can enhance or simplify the structural elements.

Natural Elements

Bringing nature indoors continues to be a key trend, and fall is the perfect time to integrate organic materials. Look for furniture and decor made from rattan, seagrass, reclaimed wood, natural stone, and linen. Decorative branches, dried flowers, and seasonal greenery like eucalyptus or wheat stalks can also add a touch of autumn without overwhelming your space. I love natural fabrics such as wool, jute, and linen really give it a timeless natural and organic feel.

Moody Lighting that Makes a Statement

Good lighting is always essential, but as daylight wanes, lighting becomes so important—not just for function, but for mood. Swap out harsh white bulbs for warmer tones. Add layers of lighting with floor lamps, table lamps, and candles to create a soft, ambient glow. Lantern-style fixtures and vintage-inspired sconces are particularly on-trend this fall. Amber glass is making a comeback and for fall this is a must.

Vintage and Heirloom Pieces

There’s a growing appreciation for items that tell a story. Vintage furniture, thrifted finds, and heirloom accessories add character and authenticity to a space. The slight wear and imperfections add authenticity and a “lived-in” charm that new items can’t replicate.

Cozy Corners

Fall is the season of hibernation, so make your home feel like a retreat. Create cozy reading nooks, design a welcoming entryway with layered rugs and soft lighting, or transform a corner of your living room into a warm space with a plush armchair and oversized throw. The goal is comfort, with a touch of personal style.

Fall design is about more than decoration—it’s about creating an atmosphere that reflects the season’s slower pace and deeper connection to nature. By embracing warm colors, layered textures, and meaningful decor, you can prepare your home for a season of comfort, creativity, and connection.
