The adidas Superstar didn’t just walk onto the scene—it carved a permanent path through sport, street, and culture. Now, to mark its 55th anniversary, adidas Originals is turning the spotlight back onto the icon that changed everything with a bold new global campaign: Superstar: The Original.

More than just a sneaker, the Superstar has been a symbol of fearless self-expression since its debut on the basketball courts in 1969. It was quickly adopted by hip-hop pioneers, skate legends, and style disruptors, becoming one of the most recognizable silhouettes in the world. Today, adidas pays homage to that legacy by tapping a new generation of cultural heavyweights to help define what it means to be an Original Icon in 2025.

Directed by visionary filmmaker Thibaut Grevet and narrated by none other than Samuel L. Jackson, the two-part campaign unfolds with cinematic force. The first chapter, Pyramids, likens the Superstar’s legacy to the monuments that have stood the test of time. The second, Clocks, is a high-energy, black-and-white celebration of timelessness and trendsetting, starring a genre-defying lineup: Missy Elliott, NBA star Anthony Edwards, rap sensation GloRilla, K-pop icon JENNIE, alt-style queen Gabbriette, music innovator Teezo Touchdown, and legendary skater Mark Gonzales.

“The Superstar has always been more than just a sneaker—it’s a symbol of originality and a spark for cultural change,” says Annie Barrett, VP of Marketing at adidas Originals. “This campaign isn’t about nostalgia—it’s about honoring the ones who don’t wait for permission to lead.”

The visuals are bold. The message is louder. And the shoes? Still iconic. The Superstar returns in two classic colourways, paired with the forever-cool Firebird Tracksuit—another piece of adidas history that continues to shape fashion decades after its debut.
