Come For The Style, Stay For The Culture: Inside The Pull, Vancouver’s New Fashion Ritual

This isn’t a market. It’s a movement.

That’s the message behind The Pull, a cultural collision of vintage fashion, community, music, matcha, and soul, returning to Vancouver’s Leisure Center on Sunday, July 27 from 12 to 5 p.m. It’s more than a shopping event—it’s a cinematic experience, lovingly curated to inspire not just your closet, but your senses.

“The Pull came from a shared feeling between myself and Mason that Vancouver needed something more soulful,” says organizer Kevin Phillips. “We wanted to create an experience that blends storytelling, fashion, culture, and community into something people actually feel.”

Set on the top floor of the sleek and modern Leisure Center, The Pull offers a sharp contrast to traditional pop-ups or vintage markets. While DJs set the tone and Superbolt Matcha fuels the vibes, guests are invited into a space that hums with energy—one where Margiela sneakers might brush up against Y2K hip-hop tees and faded NBA warm-ups.

“That’s the magic right there,” Kevin explains. “High-concept doesn’t mean exclusion. It means vision. And vintage is all vision. At the end of the day, luxury is taste. It’s how you wear it, not what it costs. The Pull is where those worlds shake hands.”

The curatorial process behind The Pull is anything but random. Every vendor is hand-selected for their eye, their story, and their respect for the craft of vintage sourcing. It’s not about chasing trends or clout—it’s about substance, intention, and style that lasts.

“We wanted sellers who really care about what they source,” Kevin says. “Pieces with character, history, and intention. That could mean rare Japanese denim or a faded tee that tells a whole era. Every rack at The Pull represents that kind of energy.”

That energy is evolving into something permanent. What started as a one-off is now taking shape as a recurring fixture—“a cultural rhythm,” in Kevin’s words.

“The Pull will happen at least twice a month moving forward. It’s meant to evolve into something permanent, but still alive. Always shifting. Always pulling. We want people to know that Sundays in Vancouver hit different now.”

But The Pull isn’t just pulling in shoppers—it’s pulling together a new vision of what fashion, space, and community can look like in this city. For Leisure Center, the collaboration is a bold move toward inclusivity and innovation.

“We’re inviting a younger, more diverse, more expressive community into the fold,” says Kevin. “The Pull is not just about bringing people in. It’s about making them feel seen. That keeps the space relevant, experimental, and alive.”

Vendors, too, are treated as vital collaborators. “We want our vendors to win. That’s the bottom line,” Kevin says. “We give them a premium space, real foot traffic, new buyers, and access to a network that’s expanding every week. But beyond the business, it’s about recognition. It’s about saying you belong here. That matters.”

Sustainability is another key thread—though not the performative kind. “Vintage is sustainability without the marketing fluff,” Kevin says. “It’s fashion that already lived, and now it’s getting a second life. We’re not trying to overbrand it. We just believe in circular fashion, pre-loved pieces, and making consumption more intentional.”

So what should guests expect when they step into The Pull? “They should feel like they stepped into something cinematic,” Kevin says. “Like they’re not just shopping, they’re stepping into a story. Whether they walk out with a bag or just a matcha, we want them to walk out changed—even if just a little.”

It’s this mindset—part ritual, part revolution—that gives The Pull its staying power. It’s not just reimagining how Vancouver shops, but how we connect, dress, and express.

“If someone starts dressing differently, seeing fashion differently, or creating their own lane because they came to The Pull,” Kevin says, “then we did what we came to do.” —Noa Nichol
