Something delicious is simmering in Vancouver’s Chinatown: Fat Mao Noodles is celebrating 10 years of serving up comforting, Thai-style noodle bowls that locals and visiting foodies can’t get enough of. Since opening its doors in 2015, the beloved noodle bar has dished out over 750,000 bowls—and to mark the milestone, it’s bringing back fan-favourite soups, debuting limited-edition merch, and launching a playful contest that’s pure purr-fection.

Created by award-winning chef Angus An (the mastermind behind Maenam, Longtail Kitchen, and more), Fat Mao—meaning “prosperous cat” in Cantonese—has grown into a cult favourite for its rich, flavour-packed broths, handmade noodles, and homey vibe. “What means the most to me is how Fat Mao has grown with Chinatown and how people have really embraced it,” says An. “It’s humbling to know it’s become a go-to spot for so many of my peers and chefs who just really love noodles.”

The month-long anniversary celebration kicks off August 1, 2025, and features two beloved throwback dishes making a limited-time return:

  • August 1–15: Tom Kha Coconut Mushroom Soup – a creamy, aromatic coconut broth infused with galangal and lime leaf, served with glass vermicelli noodles.
  • August 16–31: Southern Thai Beef Laksa – a fiery southern-style laksa brimming with beef shin, peanuts, dried shrimp and chewy wonton egg noodles.

To wash it all down? You can add a Crispy Lager to any bowl for just $5.

For superfans, a special-edition anniversary t-shirt will be available at both the Chinatown and downtown locations, featuring an adorable cartoon cat mid-noodle slurp. Diners visiting the Chinatown shop can also join the fun by entering the “How Many Lucky Cats?” contest for a chance to win a $100 Fat Mao gift card.

“It’s the team that really made this happen,” says An. “Their dedication and love for the brand has shaped Fat Mao into what it is today. We’re staying true to our roots—serving up comforting bowls of noodles, one bowl at a time.” —Noa Nichol
