It’s the one we’ve been waiting for.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” So read the caption to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s joint post announcing their much-anticipated engagement.

The Instagram carousel features five images of the couple set against a dreamy floral-filled forest backdrop (it’s giving Edward and Bella Twilight vibes). In the first image we see Kelce down on one knee. The second features the lovers embracing, with Swift giving us a first glimpse of her new mega-sparkler. Slide three showcases her dazzling antique diamond engagement ring (which was designed by Kelce) in all its majesty…and it’s everything.

Designed by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry in New York, the ring features a bezel set elongated old mine cushion cut diamond which is an historic cut dating back to the 18th century. It is perfectly on brand for the popstar as it blends modernity with an antique elegance.

“Old mine is a particularly special cut as it’s one of the rarer stones channeling a more old-world, vintage and heirloom feel with soft edges and wider facets, making the light capture and subsequent sparkle especially unique,” says Chau Lui, co-founder of Paris Jewellers and the company’s sister brand CELI. “Taylor’s ring appears to set in a delicate milgrain bezel in yellow gold and features hand etching on the band. The stone also looks to be at least 7 carats too!”

Lui has much experience in the realm of celebrity engagement rings having personally designed ones for Lana Condor, and Hayley Erbert, wife of Derek Hough, to name a few. She says Swift’s precious piece will not just set engagement ring trends, but it has already sparked a cultural movement.

“We know celebrity engagement rings spike interest in a trend, and with Taylor’s global status, we suspect this will result in a huge surge in interest for old mine cuts,” Lui reports. “It will also continue interest in the bezel set which also showed up on the celebrity scene on Zendaya earlier this year.”—Alison McGill
