We’re looking forward to Eco Fashion Week, March 31 to April 2, 2017, at the Fairmont Waterfront in Vancouver. Ahead of this annual event we chatted with founder Myriam Laroche about her favourite eco-friendly designers, top thrifting tips and more. —Jennifer Foden
What sustainable fashion trends will we see in 2017?
We will definitely see an increase in the textile industry of fabric made from second hand fibres or post-consumer material. On the fashion side, wearing your clothes several times will become inevitable. So durability, functionality and comfort will become key factors in making clothes, without forgetting the visually appealing side of it, too.
What are your top thrifting and vintage shopping tips?
Do not look for something specific, let the clothes find you. So if you’re looking for a pair of yellow pants, and don’t find them, you can be disappointed. Remember, it’s a treasure hunt. Look for luxury and quality fabric like cashmere, merino wool, silk, leather and fur. Also look for high-end quality brands. And always remember: have fun!
Who are your favourite eco-friendly designers based in B.C.?
There are so many local designers who have a great eco-recipe. Here are a couple of my favourites, but there are definitely more: Nicole Bridger, Rimpy Sahota, Evan Ducharme, Abel, Fiveleft and Dahlia Drive.
