For those of you with a little time off and a love for Lavender (is this
anyone other than me?) – head on over to Port Hope to the Laveanne
Lavender Fields.
They have the largest collection of lavender varieties in Canada (over
40). French and English lavender being the most popular. I was surprised
to see the color range include blue, red, pink, and white lavender. I
thought it was universally purple…
The drive takes about an hour from downtown Toronto, but if you head up
on the weekend they have Lavender-themed fun and food for everyone. A
local chef came by and whipped up some amazing Lavender pizza.
There are homemade soaps and balms, and a distillery set up on the
perimeter for when the plants are mature enough to produce the best oil
(plants peak at 5 yrs old).
They have a lavender labyrinth, bee hives, and seminars on how to best
grow your own lavender.
Throw in a detour to Cobourg
Beach afterwards, and you’ve got yourself a Saturday afternoon…
