Spoken word poet Shane Koyczan’s newest piece is a call to action rendered in his signature evocative style. In “Shoulders,” Koyczan draws upon the myth of Atlas, extending global responsibility from the individual to the collective, and expounding on the intimidating concept of “we.” Change is contingent on co-operation, and Koyczan’s call to “dismiss apathy and reject uncertainty” is moving, beautiful and funny. The poem launched in conjunction with David Suzuki’s Blue Dot Tour, which aims to establish environmental health as a constitutional right.
